A Romantic Spring Break on the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight has long been the backdrop for the romantic, from the Pre-Raphaelite artists of the 19th century who were drawn to the romantic poetry of Alfred Lord Tennyson, to the love affair of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in their seaside palace - Osborne House in East Cowes.

The Island is still popular with today’s visitors looking for a romantic getaway. Benedict Cumberbatch was married here on Valentine’s Day 2015 at Mottistone Church, and couples are discovering that the Island is the perfect place for a relaxing, romantic break.

From Farringford you can visit atmospheric castles, interesting museums and galleries and be inspired by the Island’s legendary and literary lovers. Follow the antiques trail – the Island is a great antiquating destination, with auction rooms and shops selling something for everyone from bargain hunters to lover of fine art.

On the Island spring often comes early because of our southerly position and our unique maritime climate. The days get longer allowing you more time to discover hidden coves and walk the Island’s glorious beaches. Compton Bay and Sandown Bay have wide expanses of sand where you can stroll and watch the seas come rolling in.

The Island’s diverse scenery make it a walker’s paradise and there are plenty of footpaths to follow through ancient woodlands, leafy green lanes and over windswept cliffs. And in Spring look out for banks of wild daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops which all arrive earlier here than on the mainland. See www.visitisleofwight.co.uk

When you’ve had enough of walking and sightseeing, visit a traditional inn serving local ales and pub grub and a roaring log fire. Many Island pubs host live music events provided by the best local talent and which are often well worth seeing.

It’s said that couples that play together stay together and on the Island there is the chance to do both . . .
