Renovations
Following the closure of the hotel in October 2009 we have begun the lengthy process of restoring Farringford. Our intention is to return the house as much as possible to how it was when Tennyson lived here. The last year has seen the slow, painstaking removal of later hotel additions, for example fire doors, bathrooms, and other paraphernalia that the hotel required. There have been many exciting discoveries but also several worrying ones concerning the main structure of the house. However, we are now in a position to apply for all the planning and listed building consents necessary to carry out the restoration project. Farringford is a grade one listed building which has involved us in writing long documents, soon to be on our website, detailing the historical changes to the house and our planned restoration and conservation programme.
This was just what we were looking for!
