Research Assistant for Farringford
Job Title: Research Assistant
Reports to: House and Collections Manager
Hours: 37.5 hrs per week
Contract type: One year
Salary: c. £19,000
Job Purpose:
To work closely with our House and Collections Manager and senior management team with preparing Farringford, the Grade 1 listed home of Poet Laureate Alfred, Lord Tennyson, for public opening as a historic house and museum.
Main Duties and Activities:
- To undertake research into the Tennyson family and household and to upload all relevant information and supporting images to the website.
- To write and manage blogs for the website
- To research content for the audio guide, guide book and guided tours.
- To set up and organize the presentation of a small opening exhibition
- To catalogue and research the objects in the house
- To provide practical assistance to a small, friendly and dedicated team with the preparation of the house for opening Spring 2017.
Skills & Experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good IT skills including PowerPoint
- Confidence at public speaking
- Excellent research skills
- Ability to work to deadlines
- The ability to work as a team member
Qualifications:
- BA (Hons) Victorian Studies, History, English literature, Philosophy
- MA Museum Studies
Knowledge and Interests:
- Historic buildings, Museum Collections, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Victorian Culture and Social History
Personal Attributes:
- Strong organization and planning skills
- The ability to work unsupervised
- Friendly and flexible
- The ability to maintain confidentiality
- Good interpersonal skills
