Walking the Island

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Farringford is located in West Wight in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with 80% of its coastline designated Heritage Coast. It is the first choice of destination for those who wish to escape the tourist hot spots and explore the unspoilt beauty of this least developed corner of the Island. Whether choosing an evening stroll on the beach or an invigorating walk to the top of the Downs it is ideal for walkers.

Tennyson Down

A footpath to the breathtakingly beautiful Tennyson Down and the world famous Needles lighthouse beyond adjoins the grounds. This was Tennyson’s daily walk and a source of inspiration for many of his most celebrated poems. For more ambitious walkers the path strikes out in the opposite direction to link with the Tennyson Trail with many hidden coves and beaches along the way, making Farringford the perfect base for nature lovers, walkers and Victorian enthusiasts.

Walk the Wight

Each year The Island hosts a walking festival in aid of The Mountbatten Hospice. The Walk the Wight Festival takes place every May and walkers of all abilities are welcome to take part.

Walking Festival

The Island also hosts the Autumn Walking Festival with over 60 walks for walkers of all ages and abilities, all led by friendly and knowledgeable leaders.

500 Miles of Footpaths

The Island is blessed with more than 500 miles of footpaths and there is an active Ramblers Association who welcome non members http://www.iowramblers.com/
