What to Expect During Your Visit

This summer, we are delighted to welcome you to the home of Alfred, Lord Tennyson and his family. Discover the desk where he composed some of his best-known works, and the rooms where he and Emily hosted long evenings of poetry, music, and conversation with many of the great minds of their century. See Tennyson not only as a poet, but as a father, husband, and friend, in the house where he spent many happy years.

A House Restored

Using the detailed inventories and diaries kept by Emily Tennyson, together with evidence uncovered during our eight-year restoration, we have returned the house to the welcoming family home it once was.

Our immersive audio tour guides you through all eleven rooms, introducing the poet, his family, and their lively social circle, accompanied by poetry and music.

Many visitors return year after year to enjoy more of Farringford’s history, poetry, art, and antique furniture.
