Islanders and Tennyson enthusiasts alike may have been surprised to spot Farringford on Gardeners’ World last Friday.
The popular television programme brought Farringford’s restored garden to a national audience, showcasing the estate with stunning aerial views.
Ellen and Ali Penstone-Smith explain the meticulous research that went into rebuilding the garden, with designs influenced by Helen Allingham’s paintings, Emily Tennyson’s diaries, and Alfred Tennyson’s letters.
Ellen explains how they have rebuilt the much loved family garden of the nineteenth century in the twenty first century, and how they have responded to the challenges this process has presented.
