On Saturday 9th December Farringford Estate hosted an exclusive garden celebratory gathering, bringing to a close another successful summer.
Garden Pass holders were invited to mince pies and mulled wine in the Restoration Exhibition. The interior was filled with ornamental foliage gathered from the garden and woodland copse, with holly and ivy garlands accented with soft white lights decorating the beams in a traditionally festive style.
The Christmas tree decorations also had a horticultural theme of baubles fashioned from dried cut flowers, 'bishops balls' and raffia ribbons, with an arrangement of squashes from the walled Garden beneath.
Sophie read out a few words from the head gardener Ellen, summarising an eventful and triumphant summer while looking ahead to plans for 2024.
There was a prize draw. The main prize, a wreath handmade by Ellen, was awarded to Mrs Barbara Calvert. Other prizes included a dog walkers hamper, garden vouchers and a children's gardening hamper. Several guests took the opportunity to tour the self-catering cottages at the end of the afternoon.
All the staff at Farringford would like to thank everyone who attended and to wish them all a Merry Christmas. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2024
