 Farringford Gardens

We stayed in one of the lets on the Farringford Estate, in the old stable block. The let was well appointed, with all that we would need for our stay. It was the home of the Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and I had a family connection as one of my great uncles worked on the estate, eventually becoming the chauffeur.

Do visit, it's a lovely place to stay and you have the Isle of Wight as your playground!

A wonderful walled garden, immaculately kept. If you only have time to visit one garden on the island it has to be this one. And not a ripoff price to visit like some others.

We had a really enjoyable time today visiting the house despite the dreadful weather. The house has been wonderfully restored with great attention to detail. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

I can't recommend this highly enough. The audio guide was informative and you can pause it at any time to speak to the guides or read exhibits more closely, for example Tennyson's edited draft of The Charge of the Light Brigade. You really get a sense of the family who lived there. The walled garden is stunning and the restoration story exhibition in the grounds is interesting too.
