I visited the gardens at Farringford last summer which were lovely. This year I was able to also do a tour of the house and it exceeded all expectations. The story of the Tennyson’s time at Farringford was beautifully brought to life through an audio history and extremely knowledgeable guides in each room were also able to answer all our additional questions. They were all so kind, considerate and helpful. I came away feeling I had had a real insight into the family and their lives. Lord Tennyson is now not so much of a distant historical figure and it made me interested to read more of his poetry. The gardens again were beautiful with lovely touches such as the shelves in the walled
gardens displaying small labelled vases of many of the plants in flower for easy identification. Boards with chalked extracts from some of Tennyson’s works were also a lovely touch. I highly recommend a visit.
